The Poetry of Elizabeth Barrie Buck

Elizabeth Barrie Buck is a Native Californian who has lived up and down the coast of California from Southern Orange County to the north end of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a marketing consultant who has recently relocated from the San Jose/Los Gatos/Santa Cruz area to Los Angeles.

Elizabeth Barrie Buck's poetry is a celebration of the aesthetics of the landscape surrounding her...a tribute to nature and flowers...as well as the lush landscape of the human heart. Most inspirational to her writing are the summers she spent in Monterey and Carmel and along the shores of Big Sur. Ms. Buck's dream is to one day own a winery in Monterey County. She is a supporter of the artistic community, and a devoted mother to her two young daughters.

Morning Sonnet

First blush of morning behold
As it creeps over the horizon line
Dawn's silhouette, pink and gold
Greets my slumbering drowsy mind.
Embrace the earth, this early morn
The scent of spring fills the air
The world wakes fresh, newly born
Awash with color, ablossom rare.
In early morning the world is triumphant
Young and tender, fresh with life
The soil is fertile, growth abundant,
Kissed by rays of glorious light.
It's here I find inspiration for my days
I am part of the continuum which nature divinely lays.

Sonnet to Spring Winds

Softly the breeze flows like a river
Kissing the earth with the delicate breath
Of spring's renewal from winter's death
As blades of grass are set a quiver.
She whispers secrets across the fields
Of wildflowers and dried out brush
Transforming in one audible hush
The world before her forced to yield.
And then as if set on course
The open skies bring rain to fall
Thunder sounds with mighty force
To answer nature's urgent call
For spring to bathe the world once more
In beauty fresh with ardent splendor.

Mist over Monterey

misty morning fog
dances
above the earth
moist air
floating
above
daring to touch
but merely
teasing
the surface below.

is that what you are?
a fog hovering above me?
i am the earth,
warm and deep
inviting you in
to be wrapped
embedded
into my warmth
my earthly womb,
so that i may nourish you
as i would a seed
safely
to flourish and grow.

but you are the fog
hovering
above me,
spirit
ever present
but never descending
below
to touch.
we exist
side by side,
part of the same landscape,
yet never connected.
and soon
as the sun rises
you drift away,
never to be seen again...
